Waters Levelling, Work Begins for Return Home

Officials say flood waters are levelling off and soon the hard work will begin to make sure homes are safe to return to.
Fifteen communities still remain under local states of emergency, including four First Nations: Cowessess, Sakimay, Ochapowace and standing Buffalo.
Duane McKay with Corrections, Public Safety and Policing, says officials are mostly just monitoring bodies of water,
McKay says most of the work now focuses on recovery plans and what needs to be done to ensure safe returns home.
He says removing sandbags and dikes will be as big of a chore, or bigger, as it was putting them there in the place.
McKay says it’s important homes are safe to return to, so building officials will be available to inspect communities for hazards such as mold and electrical systems.
