The shuttered Prince Albert Pulp Mill could reopen sooner than first expected.

Domtar announced in March that Paper Excellence was investing $200 million in the facility.

The plan is to convert the mill to produce dissolving pulp used in textiles to make rayon.

The conversion was originally expected to take between 18 months and two years to complete.

Paper Excellence now says it wants to reopen the mill within 12 months.

The mill has been closed for five years, but workers are being hired and the company says its offices should be open within a week.

The Saskatchewan government is promising to commit $500 million a year in the first two years to help train new mill operators.
