Recovery Continued Focus of Flooding

Not much has changed with flood waters across Saskatchewan.

The focus continues to be on monitoring the situation and recovery instead of response.

People continue to be forced from their homes, although officials say there is no immediate danger for more flooding.

Duane McKay with Corrections, Public Safety and Policing says there are a few people from Cowessess who still can’t return to their houses, as well as eight families from Sakimay and one from Ochapowace.

Today there are 14 communities with local states of emergency – down one from yesterday.

McKay says there’s now an increase in communities applying for provincial disaster assistance: 32 have declared that need, and he expects around 70 more to apply.

McKay says officials are now working with the bands and towns to see what can be done to get people back into their homes.

He says inspections will definitely be required in many areas.
