Beauval Loses Arena to Fire

A community gathering place in the northern village of Beauval has burned to the ground.

 

Mayor Fred Roy says the fire at the Charles Gauthier Memorial Arena started late yesterday afternoon, and there was little firefighters from the community and Ile-a-la-Crosse could do to save it.

 

Roy says the firefighters’ efforts were hampered by a lack of a nearby water source.

 

There’s no word yet on a possible cause.

 

The arena mezzanine was a popular site for weddings, funerals, graduations and other special events.

 

It was also going to be a polling station.

 

The new polling site is the Seniors Villa in Beauval located at Lot 1-6 Block 9.

 

Approximately 660 electors are impacted by this change.

 

Polls are open from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm.
