The Saskatchewan Coalition Against Racism is up in arms over the possible transfer of a prisoner to the province’s penitentiary.

Leader Bob Hughes says it’s wrong to send a young man to the pen over a technicality.

William Strongheart is an Aboriginal man in his late twenties who is currently serving time at the Regina Correctional Centre.

He is nearly done his sentence.

However, it recently came to light that Strongheart’s combined sentence is actually a few days over two years.

The error wasn’t spotted until now, and Hughes says Strongheart is about to be shipped off to the penitentiary.

Hughes has appealed to Saskatchewan Justice to halt the decision.

He has heard the case is under review and is hoping Strongheart can stay at the correctional centre.
