Trial Set for Man Accused of Defrauding PBCN

A man accused of defrauding a northern band will head to trial this summer.

George Kevin Sewap was charged earlier this year with theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000.

The charges stem from alleged mishandling of the Treaty Land Entitlement Fund belonging to the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation.

Sewap’s trial will begin on August 12th in Prince Albert.

Meantime, similar charges have been dropped against another man who was also charged in the case.

Court was told today that Melvin Merasty had completed his mediation and the charges against him had been withdrawn.
