Mushroom Harvesters In Tough

It could be a tough year for mushroom growers in Northern Saskatchewan.

A cold spring has delayed this year’s growing season.

What’s more, large fires in B.C. last summer have made ideal conditions for that province’s crop of morel mushrooms.

Gerry Ivanocho is the province’s northern agrologist.

He says northern growers may find it more difficult this year to find buyers from out of province.

Ivanochko adds most of the big fires in Northern Saskatchewan last year happened in the far north and that area is still locked in cold temperatures.

He says growers will likely be hoping for warm weather soon to help move things along.
