A Mistawasis teenager is one of five youth chosen from around the world to embark on a 250 kilometre run over 6 days in Bolivia.

Seventeen-year-old Brandon Sand is also the first Aboriginal person ever chosen for participation in the program that’s putting it on.

This is the fourth trek since the program began in 2009 with a run on Baffin Island.

Sand hopes his efforts will provide inspiration to other Aboriginal youth to believe in themselves.

Sand and the other four runners begin on Sunday and will run across the world’s largest salt flat at an elevation of 12,000 feet.

They will be running the equivalent of a marathon each day.
