FSIN, Province Sign “Historic” Agreement

The FSIN and the province have signed an agreement that will launch a three-person task force on finding solutions to eliminating gaps in education and employment outcomes.
Premier Brad Wall and FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild signed the agreement today in Regina.
The task force will be chosen by the end of the summer and begin public consultations this fall.
FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild calls the agreement historic because it’s the first time the FSIN has signed something bilaterally with the province.
He says the task force will look at the reasons why Aboriginal students aren’t achieving the same education and employment results as other Saskatchewan students and how to address those issues.
He expects the inequitable education funding on and off reserve to be an issue raised during consultations.
A final report from those consultations is expected August 2012.
