Today is National Lifejacket Day across the country.

The day was created by the Red Cross in an effort to get more people wearing floatation devices.

Shelby Rushton is the CEO of the Lifesaving Society of Saskatchewan.

She says most drownings occur because people forget or don’t bother to put on a life-jacket.

She adds most people drown within 50 metres of the shoreline.

Rushton says the Lifesaving Society would like to see lifejacket-use enforced by law.
