Residential School Apology Remembered By AFN

The Assembly of First Nations is marking a solemn anniversary.

It was three years ago today the Government of Canada issued its apology for the residential school system.

National Chief Shawn Atleo notes education was once used as a weapon of oppression against First Nations — but now he says it is the key to success.

The chief adds the Truth and Reconciliation Commission process will continue the important work of healing.

More national events with the TRC are scheduled throughout this year.
