A University of Regina researcher is receiving a $1 million grant to gather information on intimate partner violence in rural and Northern communities across the Prairie provinces and the Northwest Territories.

Over the next five years, psychology professor Dr. Mary Hampton will work with 18 academic researchers and 15 community partners including shelters, government justice and social service departments.

Hampton says there is very little data on partner violence in rural and Northern communities, and this project will focus on changing responses and developing solutions.

The Luther College professor was awarded the funding from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council.

The project includes working with First Nations communities.
